### Lesson Plan: Storage of Simple Machines
**Grade:** Primary 1
**Subject:** Basic Tech
**Duration:** 45 minutes
#### Objectives:
- Students will understand what simple machines are.
- Students will learn about proper storage methods for simple machines.
- Students will be able to explain why it is important to store simple machines properly.
#### Materials Needed:
- Pictures or drawings of simple machines (lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, screw)
- Real-life examples of simple machines (or toy models)
- Storage bins, boxes, or containers
- Labels and markers
- Chart paper and crayons
#### Lesson Outline:
1. **Introduction (10 minutes)**
- Begin with a brief discussion on what machines are and examples of machines they use in their daily lives (e.g., bicycle, scissors).
- Introduce the concept of "simple machines" by showing pictures or drawings of examples such as a lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, and screw.
- Define each simple machine and give a quick function description.
2. **Interactive Activity (15 minutes)**
- Show real-life examples or toy models of simple machines.
- Let students touch and handle the models to get a tactile sense of what the machines are like.
- Discuss with students where they have seen these machines used around their home or school.
3. **Importance of Proper Storage (5 minutes)**
- Explain why it’s important to store simple machines properly (to keep them from getting lost or broken, to keep people safe, and to find them easily when needed).
- Discuss what could happen if the machines are not stored properly (e.g., someone could trip over them, they could rust or get dirty).
4. **Demonstrating Storage Methods (5 minutes)**
- Show students storage bins, boxes, or containers.
- Demonstrate how to store the simple machine models properly.
- Create labels for each storage container and explain how labels help us keep things organized.
5. **Hands-On Practice (8 minutes)**
- Divide students into small groups.
- Give each group a set of simple machine models and a storage container.
- Ask students to practice placing each simple machine model into the storage container and labeling it.
- Walk around to assist and guide them as needed.
6. **Review and Conclusion (2 minutes)**
- Quickly review the names and functions of the simple machines.
- Ask students to explain why it’s important to store the machines properly.
- Praise them for their participation and remind them to always store their tools and machines properly at home and school.
#### Assessment:
- Have students draw a picture of one simple machine and show where they would store it.
- Observe group practice and ask individuals to explain the storage process.
#### Homework:
- Ask students to find a simple machine at home and tell an adult how to store it properly.
- Optional: Students can bring a photo or draw a picture of the simple machine they found and share it with the class during the next lesson.
#### Additional Notes:
- Keep the lesson engaging and interactive to maintain the attention of Primary 1 students.
- Use simple language and visual aids to reinforce learning.
- Encourage questions and participation to make the lesson more dynamic and student-centered.
